Assay is run by Adam Mayer, trading as Assay, based in the United Kingdom, contactable at adam@assayworks.co.uk. Postal address: 43 Rippleside Road, Clevedon, BS21 7JX, United Kingdom.
Assay is sold to businesses for business purposes. It is not a consumer service, and the consumer cancellation rules do not apply. What you can do is simpler than those rules anyway.
Assay reads your product catalogue, reports what it finds, and proposes rewritten descriptions and product types for the problems it can actually fix. You review the proposals in bulk, one at a time, or not at all, and nothing reaches your shop until you approve it and press Apply.
Descriptions are drafted by a language model from your own product information and then checked automatically before you ever see them. You are the last check, and the one that counts. Approving a rewrite is you deciding it is fit to publish on your shop, so read them.
Assay changes exactly two things: the product description and the product type.
It will never change a price, a stock level, a SKU, a weight, a shipping setting, an image, or anything else that affects what a customer is charged or what they receive. This does not rest on good intentions. Assay is built so that an attempt to change anything else is refused outright rather than quietly ignored.
Every shop gets its first hundred products rewritten free, once. It is an offer to remove the cold start, not a monthly allowance. It does not reset each month, and it is not a free plan. If you never pay, you still keep the work and the report.
| Tier | Products a month | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | 100 | $49 a month |
| Standard | 250 | $99 a month |
| Large | 500 | $179 a month |
| Upkeep | 50, new products only, once the backlog is clear | $29 a month |
Prices exclude any tax that applies to you.
An allowance is per month and does not roll over. If you use forty of a two-hundred-and-fifty product tranche, the next month is two hundred and fifty again, not four hundred and sixty. The tranche buys a rate of work, and you set the pace: approve a whole month's rewrites in bulk and apply them in one go, or work through them a few at a time. Move down a tier, or stop entirely, whenever the pace stops suiting you.
To clear a backlog faster, choose a larger tier: the large tier is 500 products a month at the lowest rate per product. Move down a tier, or to upkeep, whenever you like.
It depends on your platform, and it is not a choice either of us makes:
Payment is monthly in advance. Where Shopify bills you, Shopify's own terms govern the mechanics of that charge.
There is no minimum term and no notice period. Cancel and you are not billed again.
You keep the tranche you have already paid for until the end of that billing month; part-months are not refunded, because you have had the work. If something has gone wrong rather than simply run its course, write to me. I would rather refund you than argue about it.
You can also stop Assay instantly and without telling me, by revoking its access in your own admin. It will then be unable to read or write anything.
Your wording is saved before anything overwrites it, and restoring returns your original words, not Assay's previous attempt at them.
One deliberate limit: if you edit a description yourself after Assay wrote it, restoring that product is refused and your newer wording is left alone. That version is the one there is no copy of, and the undo button is the last place you should be able to lose work. You can always replace it yourself.
Assay does not promise more sales, better rankings, or any particular commercial result. What it promises is that the checks are honest, that the rewrites are readable and specific to your products, and that you see every change before it is made.
The service is provided as it is, without an uptime guarantee. If something is broken, telling me is the fastest route to it being fixed.
If Assay causes you a loss, my liability is limited to the fees you paid in the twelve months before it happened. Neither of us is liable to the other for lost profits, lost sales, or losses neither of us could reasonably have seen coming.
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not permit to be limited. Nothing here is intended to talk you out of a complaint that is fair.
What is held, why, and how to make it stop is set out in the privacy notice, which is part of these terms. In short: your credential is encrypted, your catalogue text is read to be checked and rewritten, descriptions are sent to a language model to be drafted, and nothing is sold or shared for anyone else's marketing.
If these terms change in a way that matters to you, I will email you before it takes effect, rather than quietly updating the page and relying on you noticing. A price change never applies to a month you have already paid for.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have exclusive jurisdiction. If a court finds any part unenforceable, the rest still stands.
